How franchises are impacted by top-level decisions

Last week it came out that Volkswagen lied about the way their vehicles performed on emissions tests. A few weeks ago the very recognizable former face of Subway was taken away in disgrace. How are these events linked? Well, they aren't, but it got me thinking about all the Subway franchises and the Volkswagen dealerships. The decisions and actions made by the top-level will directly impact their sales. I wanted to understand this relationship a little better so I called up Josh Brown of Indy Franchise Law. This is his world, and I knew he could help me understand the relationship between the franchisee and the brands they serve.
